LITERATI

ABOUT LITERATI

Literati is a small business based in Austin, TX with the mission to spark a love of reading and improve literacy rates among children. When I started in 2021, Literati was a curated subscription book club for readers of all ages with two main product lines: Literati Kids & Literati Book Clubs (YA & Adult). Literati Kids is a try-before-you-buy subscription box that is curated to the individual child’s reading level and interests. Literati Book Clubs was a subscription service for YA & Adult readers with a variety of book clubs to be part of, each curated by the Luminaries (or celebrity book club hosts), including Malala, Stephen Curry, Richard Branson, Elin Hilderbrand, Austin Kleon, and Megan Rapinoe.

In the Winter of 2021, Literati acquired Follett Book Fairs, forming Literati Book Fairs, an elevated experience with higher-quality books and curation, greater rewards opportunities for schools, and beautifully designed themes for a more magical and immersive book fair experience.

MY ROLE

Visual Designer

I began at Literati as a Marketing Designer, where my responsibilities mostly involved designing digital and printed marketing materials such as emails, social posts, flyers, postcards, blog articles, paid ads, and various marketing campaigns. I also designed various internal and external presentations such as board decks, pitch decks, and marketing strategy decks.

As the company evolved, so did my role. From Nov 2021 - Nov 2022, my title changed to Visual Designer and my main focus became designing for book fairs. I worked closely with our senior designer and copywriters to establish the Literati Book Fairs brand while concepting and designing each season’s themed book fair experience.

When things slowed down, I would often use that time to work with the creative team to come up with ways to make our processes easier or more efficient, like helping refine our task management system and unify our file management and organization practices. I also helped build out libraries for shared assets and templatized our regular recurring assets, which allowed us to turn those out much faster than before. Motivated by my passion for my work and strong belief in Literati’s mission, I also looked for ways to contribute towards internal projects aimed at nurturing our positive company culture.

Literati Book Fairs

For three book fair seasons, I took the look and feel of the chosen theme and applied it to all the on-site merchandising shelf and table signage, pre-fair marketing materials, and sales materials for that season, including some of the book case signage, table signs, bookmark handouts, presentation decks, emails, social posts, instructional webinar graphics, guidebooks, and more.

I also worked on book fair projects aimed to acquire new subscriptions for Literati Kids Book Clubs so that children can benefit from expert book curation all year long.

Internal Projects

In addition to designing a variety of internal projects such as board decks, internal HR decks, business cards, I had a hand in a lot of work done for Literati’s company culture. I designed the new line of company swag and logo seals and was also designer for various assets used for Literati’s own moving bookshelves, Bookmoto.
